Customer reviews of The Love Poems of Rumi
|
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfect Comment: Rumi and Deepak, a union made in heaven:)
Perfect little book of Rumi to give as a gift for a first glimpse into his world, beautiful.
Customer Rating: Summary: Beautiful Comment: If you ever get into an argument with your husband or wife, read a few of these outloud to each other, and soon you'll both be crying and laughing and forgiving and loving again...Rumi touches the parts of our soul where love and God reside....
Customer Rating: Summary: A Rumi Bedside Companion Comment: Trying to plow through all of Rumi's works can be overwhelming. How nice to have a tiny selection to keep by the bedside for inducing dreams of love!
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent! Comment: Jalal al-Din Mohammad Balkhi (more popularly known as `Rumi') is a well known 13th century Sufi poet and theologian. I have come across his work several times in that past, but I never read more than a few passages. This is the first time I have sat down and read a collection of his work `cover to cover,' and I deeply enjoyed it. Rumi's poems are deeply spiritual and penetrate perfectly into the human condition of love and the tides of overwhelming emotions that run with it. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and I would especially recommended it to men. There are some really romantic and spiritual poems in here that I think would make a nice impression on a `special' woman in your life.
Customer Rating: Summary: Elegant, Sacredly Sensual - This one is a Keeper Squared Comment: Wow. I sat reading this elegantly slim volume in my local Barnes and Noble and I am surprised I didn't float away in ecstacy. I felt completely engulfed in spiritual inspiration, I felt transfixed by a sacred sensuality - and all this while sitting in the children's section no less.
Rumi, as those of us who adore his work know, is a one-of-a-kind.
Deepak Chopra is another one-of-a-kind.
Bring the energy of these two beings, separated by centuries, and you have a winner on so many planes. I plan on giving many copies of this book as gifts - possibly to introduce people to Rumi... or perhaps, to woo a certain someone.
Ahhhh, yes. This is GOOD stuff...........

Editorial Reviews:
|
Born Jalal ad-Din Mohammad Balkhi in Persia early in the thirteenth century, the poet known as Rumi (named after the city where he lived) composed works of mysticism and desire that inspired countless people in his own time and throughout the centuries. His poems expressed the deepest longings of the human heart for its beloved, for that transcendent intimacy which is the source of the divine.
This slender, beautiful volume consists of new translations by Farsi scholar Fereydoun Kia, edited by Deepak Chopra to evoke the rich mood and music of Rumi's love poems. Exalted yearning, ravishing ecstasy, and consuming desire emerge from these poems as powerfully today as they did on their creation more than 700 years ago.
