Summary: 12 Steps to a More Peaceful Life
Comment: "When we choose a peaceful response, the effect of our choice radiates outward into the world." ~ pg. 124

Karen Casey has written a small book that takes about an hour to read, however the lessons contained in this book can have big results. She starts the book by talking about how we should not interfere in other people's lives and then each chapter seems to have something to do with working on our own lives vs. worrying about other people's lives.

From what I can tell from her own experiences she grew up with very controlling people trying to run her life. This book takes a completely different direction, it almost preaches: "withdrawal." This might be fine for some people who are not in a relationship or who don't have kids. I believe you need to be active in your relationships and not neglectful. What happens if your kids are on drugs, should you not "interfere." I would take the chance to save my kid's life.

While the advice is good at times I did disagree with this sentence: "I also suggest that whenever thoughts of the future come into your mind, you envision blowing them away." ~ pg. 29 Many spiritual teachers would tell you just the opposite and that you should visualize your future which then leads to success.

If you are traveling along a spiritual path (and all of us are in some way) then many of the ideas in this book may seem familiar to you. As you read each chapter you can do your own reality check to see where you are in regards to the advice given. For example, the advice on never arguing seems like good advice but it is probably never going to happen. You are probably still going to argue sometimes even if you try to avoid all negative experiences.

What I appreciated most about this book was the fact that we can make positive choices that will better our lives. Karen Casey guides you through each step so you can analyze your current life and find out what changes need to be made.

Summary: A Treasure!
Comment: Borrowed this book from library. It got my attention from page 1 and proved to provide helpful insights. We've all heard the adage of our inability to change others, that we can only work on ourselves. Through concise and direct language, the author expands on this point and offers clear suggestions. For me, it demonstrated the possibilities available when I choose to change my thoughts. I am eager to read some of Ms. Casey's other work. This book merits a spot in the home library.

Comment: Some of the points in this book were good. I didn't mind the references to God or the 12 step program. What did bug me was that the author went on and on about keeping your nose out of other peoples business, even if its a friend who needs you.

Summary: Small book with huge life lessons
Comment: This book was given to me last Christmas and in 2007 I've given it to all my friends and all have in turn given to people in their lives. It has such a simple message of acceptance for oneself and that in turn allows tolerance of others. Everyone should have this book!

Comment: I originally bought this book for a friend who needed to take a new approach to her marriage. I found it so compelling as I breezed through the pages before wrapping it, that I kept it to read first! It's a lot like "The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People" in that it gives you simple (actionable) ways to find peaceful solutions to every kind of problem.
