Summary: Does the trick
Comment: I use this CD to get to sleep or return to sleep--it is the best sound effects CD I have found for this purpose.

Summary: A good CD, but...
Comment: You know that Simpsons episode where Homer tries to soothe Marge by making ocean sounds? He first shooshes some waves, then he imitates the sound of a buoy, then he wakes her up with a horrible bird screeching, and then he tops it off with a pirate's "Arrrr, Matey." This CD is sort of like that, without the buoy and the pirates.

Summary: Best Waves CD Ever!
Comment: I listen to this CD more than any other CD in my collection. I disagree with the other reviewers regarding the bird. I have about 20 different CDs of ocean waves...many are marred by loud birds or other distractions. I have listened to this CD every day for years and years and have never noticed a bird. This CD is ideal for sleeping. It is really like my security blanket. Whenever I have to go to sleep without it, I wish I had it. Believe me, I have tried the rest, this CD is the best!

Well, 2 years after writing my original review above , I revisited this CDs page, to give this CD as a gift. In those 2 years I have purchased about 10 more CDs of waves, as well as many other CDs of waterfalls, babbling brooks, rainshowers, etc. This is still, far and away, my favorite ambient nature sounds CD. Because of the reviews on this page I have listened specifically trying to hear what seems to annoy others, the birds mentioned. I do hear minor chirping but do not find the bird sounds loud or distracting at all. Compared to the 40+ other ambient CDs I own, this one is the most suitable for putting on repeat and sleeping to all night, while drowning out the sounds of the city outside my windows. The review mentioning the Simpsons is hilarious, but way, way off base in my opinion. Many other ambient CDs I have have loud CAW, CAW bird noises or even insects flying near the microphone that can startle me out of a deep sleep. One rainshower CD even has a woodpecker that is quite distracting. This CD never distracts me; I guess the light chirps are part of what lets my mind drift off...I feel like I'm really on the beach instead of spitting distance from a freeway. The variations in the wave sounds, of big waves and small, make it the best, IMO. I wonder where sounds of actual waves could be recorded without bird noises? I have a couple CDs that are clearly fake waves, just white noise, but I much prefer this CD, birds and all. I've got it on right now and it is lulling me to sleep as I type. G'night.

Summary: GREAT SURF AND A BIRDIE TANTRUM
Comment: A great recording of surf, one of the best, but there is a bird. This bird doesn't fly away, he stays about the same distance from the microphone the entire time. About 30 minutes into the recording he began to have a birdie tantrum, something upset him, but he stayed and stayed. I gave it a 2 star for surf. If they can edit out the bird and just let us have the wonderful surf then it would be worth the money, but as it is skip it, it is not for sleeping.

Summary: A Misleading Title
Comment: The title of the cd is "Tropical Surf" but what I didn't know until I listened to it was that the entire one hour recording consists of waves and chirping birds. If you love songbirds, then this cd is for you. If you just want a relaxing cd with beautiful ocean waves, I would not recommend this album.
