Customer reviews of Chants Of India: Ravi Shankar; George Harrison
|
Customer Rating: Summary: Soothing, purifying Comment: One of the best CDs I have. This CD reminds me of the morning prayer chants at my Boarding school in Rajghat.I never wanted to sing it when I was young. Now,I absolutely love it."Om poornamidah.." is my favourite.
Customer Rating: Summary: What can i say!!! Comment: Just AWESOME!!! LOOV this CD!!! pure chants from India in the true classical style. deeply resonating to the sacred..... Sarah Sanctuary The Sacred Pyramid Voices of Eternity
Customer Rating: Summary: This is a wonderful rendention of some well-known chants Comment: This is actually my third copy as I keep giving them away. I love this CD. The music and chanting are beautiful.
Customer Rating: Summary: Focus Comment: From a musical perspective, this album is great and what you'd expect ( its a bit repetitive, and sorry since i am not naive when it comes to Ragas )
From chants it has good and easy to listen to tracks ( Mrityunjaya my favorite ) but the point is that chants do not require music at all, so my only complaint with this album is that music was made louder in places than chants themselves, especially in vedic chanting tracks, where one can barely hear chants themselves. so it should have been named as Music or some thing else of India rather than chants ( that's a soft complaint btw, i enjoyed the album in any case =).
Regards
Vyas, Anirudh
Customer Rating: Summary: For fans of God and Ravi Shankar Comment: This is a wonderful spiritual album and will delight fans of Ravi Shankar sitar music. They are chants to God in the dialect of India but may be followed along in Sanscrit as well as in native tongue and also in English using the enclosed pamphlet found with the CD. I find the music and chanting wonderful to meditate with or to use as background to work around the home. You will not be disappointed with this album if you love God and if you love the music of Ravi Shankar! George Harrison produced this album and so makes it more special with the spiritual vibrations of this former Beatles member. Namaste

Editorial Reviews:
|
Mantram is Ravi Shankar's effort to set Sanskrit chants from ancient Hindu scriptures to music, and the result is a captivating mix of chant and music. Produced by George Harrison, this collection of mantras and prayers from the Vedas, Upanishads, and other scriptures powerfully transports the listener to a place of peace where it's possible to be one with the universe. It's as if a heavy, enveloping cloak of serenity falls from the dark, floating sounds of cello opening the CD. Shankar employs flute, tamboura, harp, and other instruments to accent the mighty "Om" thread that weaves itself through the cloth of this album, bringing together deep, ominous voices with delicate, earthly instruments. One looking for extensive Shankar sitar might be disappointed, but the beauty of this artist's creativity and spiritual vision sweeps one away into a larger, more meaningful listening experience. Highly recommended. --Karen Karleski
