Customer reviews of The Merkin Dream

Customer Rating: Summary: Pleasant but forgettable Comment: This is a pleasant enough listen but in the world of downtempo, now drowning in acts trying to jump onto the bandwagon, this album is a bit too forgettable. A good album to buy to relax to, but personally I'm not expecting it to be an album I'll go back to over and over.
Customer Rating: Summary: Lost their soul in the microphone Comment: This has the potential to be a really great album. It has moments of pure beauty and pure beast. The track "Does My Harddrive turn you on", is such a campy dud. Even without the aweful words it really is lacking a decent structure. The other song which has amazing music and vocals which just kill it are "Firebird"... "I sold my soul for a synthesizer, I sold my soul for a microphone". It would seem that they would get more payback for their soul if they sold that stupid microphone and stuck to the synthesizer.
Beyond these minorish faults it is a solid album. Excellent for background music while getting work done.
Customer Rating: Summary: Depressed Comment: Depressed ambient makes for a good listen. Try Kid A or Ulrich Schnauss Far Away Trains passing by.
Customer Rating: Summary: Brain erasure Comment: I love this CD! it clears my restless mind from the daily grind of work and helps me sleep. For me, that is priceless. by the 5th song the only thing I am aware of is the subtle music. If $8.00 is to much for you to risk you can purchace 1 song from iTunes and check it out yourself. I like "swell", "ting is all right", and "softly" the best. I also like, "does my hardrive turn you on" its quirky and fun.
Customer Rating: Summary: "14 Barnes Dub Explosion" Comment: I'd love to know what the title of this song means (if it actually means anything). This is one of the best electronic-dub songs I've ever heard. (This probably isn't saying much since the prime examples of electronic-dub that I can think of right now are Pole and Andreas Tilliander, glitch music made by Nordic laptop nerds. Swedish electronic music always sounds like a nature walk through a hard drive on a cold and quiet night to me . . . uh, sparse and angular.) This song, by contrast, sounds full and smooth. All the elements of the song are synthesized but they aren't cold. It is repetitive, but there is always enough going on to really keep your interest moving throughout the song. Really funky but laid back. Sounds corny in words but actually cool to hear.
