Comment: Reading through some other comments, I'd like to throw in my own three cents. Beegie Adair should indeed be considered among the short list of great jazz pianists. Her recordings are one thing. Here LIVE PERFORMANCES are quite another.
On I'll Take Romance, Beegie Adair and her trio, accompanied by a gorgeous full orchestra on this project, present the great songs of romance in a, yes, "romantic" and "easy on the ears" format. Intentionally created for dinners, candlelight moments, and those oh-so-grand times of canoodling with your heartmate.
This in no way dismisses her from inclusion among Bill Evans, George Shearing, Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan, Gene Harris, et al. Still a sceptic? Go see her live concerts. I've attended dozens of them, and I have every single recording she has made (23 to date).
Again, her recordings are great, no doubt. Her live performances are beyond great. Hear for yourself.

Summary: Best "cocktail piano" ever
Comment: Rather than comparing her to the great jazz pianists, Beegie Adair should be recognized as having made the best albums ever created, in a class of music that used to be called "cocktail piano". Instead of demanding careful attention while listening (like most jazz pianists), Beegie's music is quiet and relaxing, but with much more class and intelligence than Muzak, elevator music, or schlocky pop-cover instrumentals. It's the perfect background music for working at a computer, making or having drinks or dinner, or talking with friends. If you'd like some of that in your collection, she's as good as you'll ever find, and "I'll Take Romance" is the album of hers that I would recommend most highly. If I'm facing a hard day at work, with tight deadlines and no room for distractions, I'll often put on this CD, hit the "repeat" button, and listen to it several times through. It's that good.
