Customer reviews of When I Grow Too Old to Dream
|
Customer Rating: Summary: My Favorite McDermott Comment: I have multiple copies of everything (some 20+ CDs)that John McDermott has ever recorded, and this is my favorite one of all of them! In addition to the wonderful selection of songs on this recording, John's voice is at its richest. His renditions of "Annie Laurie," "The Fields of Athenry," "Wild Mountain Thyme," "My Ain Folk," "Bluebells of Scotland," and "Scotland the Brave" (to name a few) are the best I have ever heard. As a previous reviewer mentioned, "When John McDermott sings a song, it is his forever!" I couldn't agree more. This CD offers a broad range of material from a very fine performer.
Customer Rating: Summary: John McDermott Comment: I just love this guy. On every CD of his that I own there is always at least one song that makes me cry.
Customer Rating: Summary: Straight into your heart! Comment: So what can one say about another John McDermott Cd? The usual would be that the voice is a gift of genetics and heaven. John's voice is showcased on this CD in Celtic favorites and also, songs from other origins. John's version of the title song is lush and heartfelt. It strikes into one's own feelings of loves past, present and future. Of someone lost somewhere in the past but always, present in their heart's memory. It's a lovely song, well done both vocally and, as ever in the McDermott way, instrumentally. Bravo to Brigham Phillips once again! The Celtic songs, led by the true love song, Annie Laurie, are all beautifully rendered. Lark in the Clear Air is a triumph of a voice and a melody becoming as one. Once John McDermott sings a song, it is his forever! My Ain Folk has his longing for his native Scotland and Scotland the Brave shows his pride in his heritage and makes you want to get up and DANCE to boot! Kathleen,a new song with a purposely older sound is another joy. The melody and words become alive in this song: you can see Kathleen and her love dancing across that floor, all eyes glued on her special presence. John's voice makes every word come to life. His is a special gift and this CD showcases that gift so well. For a visit to places that will make you smile from start to finish, visit with John and his wonderful musicians and dream along with them on this charming journey. You will want to come back again and again! It is a sentimental journey that is will become a favorite, for sure!
