Summary: What else is there?
Comment: I'm sure that this album doesn't have the best song ever written on it. Simon Green probably hasn't written the most talent riddled of music. I, however, must honestly and whole-heartedly say that if the music he puts out doesn't have the highest quality and consistency of incredulity, I honestly don't know what does. Never have I had the privilege to not only listen to an artist's album, but in fact his or her entire discography and be consecutively blown away to the degree that Bonobo does. I love the amount of emotional, mental, and even physical awareness that this music brings me. I've listened to many artists and many albums from each artist (if applicable) and had the same caliber of emotion driven into my soul (Four Tet, older STS9, Tortoise, Blockhead and most other Ninja Tune artists (like Bonobo, I know...) and in other genres as well, such as Cinemechanica, The Mars Volta, Ratatat, Radiohead...the list goes on) but Bonobo has reached new heights, and more times than most combined. It's about time that music means something again, and that one can actually feel that something. It is what drives me through this rotten world.

Summary: A fine record from the Relapse Records of Electronic Music
Comment: If there is one thing to be sure, is that Ninja Tune always is dedicated to being the antithesis of modern techno junk. While yes, a lot of the Ninja Tune stuff isn't really my thing, but there is no denying that it's a record label dedicated to excellence in electronic music. With their variety, it's only fair they have an artist like Bonobo.

Bonobo, combines smooth, laid back beats with a variety of exotic samples, often world music. He has a very relaxing and broad pallet of these sounds He's not as frentic as Amon Tobin, or as cinematic or tense as the Cinematic Orchestra, and is not as quirky as DJ Food or Kid Koala. Bonobo is very listenable and thank god! avoids the cheesy world gimmick trap that musicians easily fall into. His music isn't brilliant, but you'd be hard pressed not to find anything better when the moods hits.

Bonobo actually may be another good artist for chilling, but he definitely isn't purely downtempo. He uses the rhythm to add even more life to the chill factor. He cooks up a great batch of songs on this record. The noctural-like opener sets the done with soothing and exotic samples, and the skittering second track takes off like a bird in the sky. And when this guy goes a bit more uptempo, he does it with the incredibly Pick Up, with it's incredibly jazzy and exotic flute, with a old school hip hop groove. He's excellent at making trhobbing bass lines, and he does it without sounding too artificial. He's no Squarepusher (who is known to actually play bass, and he's excellent at the bass, I think), but it really takes the cake.

While certainly not worth writing home about, I definitely think this record is worth getting, especially if you want some chill out music with character and execution done right.

Summary: Consistently good but rarely great
Comment: 3 1/2

Fun, eclectic electro set mixes dancefloor savvy and headphone subtlety with a degree of finesse similar acts do not comprehend. Exotic sampling and crisp beats hopefully weave into something greater with some of these nine tracks.

Summary: Dial M for Marvelous Music
Comment: This is a brilliant CD from start to finish ... a modern music classic. This is not your typical electronica CD in that there is an unmatched depth of layers of instrumental parts that create a wall of sound. The creative texturing of sounds creates a reflective and relaxing mood. This CD is close to being a mix of jazz and electronica. The only thing really keeping it from being a modern jazz classic is a lack of instrumental solos. However, it is a compositional masterpiece for the electronica genre, and essential listening for anyone into that genre. It is the best electronica CD I've heard in years, and it grows on you with every listen.

Summary: bonobo rocks
Comment: I'm a huge fan of bonobo and own every single one of his albums...this album only gets 4 stars because of how much better animal magic was. this is solid album...especially "pick up" and "something for windy"...i'd recommend you pick this album up. And while you're at it, pick up his other albums as well.
