Summary: Absolutely Incredible!!!
Comment: Derek Trucks addition to the band turned out to be an incredible success. I have always liked Dickie Betts and was not happy with him being removed from the band, but after seeing Derek Trucks play, I was blown away. Some other reviewers feel differently and liked Betts better, but for me, Trucks was awesome!!! I'm not knocking Betts, but just saying how incredible Trucks was. He fit right in next to Warren Hayes and the exchanges of riffs between the two are the best I've ever seen between two guitarists. Even Allman himself seemed refreshed and alive. I thouroughly enjoyed his vocals. He is one of the masters. Instumental Illness was a mind blowing song. These guys can still play with the best of them. This is a must have DVD for any Blues fan.

Summary: The Gregg Allman Band delivers the goods
Comment: I have to admit i was not happy when brother Dickey was kicked out of the band as i felt he was a major contributor to the bands success, that said, i watched this concert and was blown away by the great musicianship of Warren Haynes and the excellent slide work of Derek Trucks. I especially liked "instrumental illness" which shows us again how great these guys are at long jam sessions. I wish they would have thrown in a few more of the old classics like Les Brers in A Minor, Elizabeth Reed and Jessica but i guess they (Gregg) didnt want to do any of Dickey's songs. Dreams and Whipping Post are also highlights of this Beacon Theatre concert.

Summary: Great!
Comment: There is not much I can say. I have listened to the old Fillmore East recordings for years thinking nothing could come close. And lamenting the fact that I never saw the group with Duane & Berry. This does come really close, and it is great to know that it is not too late to see the group as it is on this DVD, which I have done.

Summary: amazing and pleasant surprise
Comment: i took a chance on this dvd because i had heard the version of "whipping post" from this on sirius radio...and i heard absolutely breathtaking solos, and the film turns out to be stunning...yes, it's a long way from dickey betts and duane, but these two lead guitarists, warren haynes and derek trucks, all but unknown to me, were remarkably talented...i think that dwayne and butch trucks are the only remaining originals after all these years, but i say that you can buy this remarkable performance without hesistation...enjoy!!!

Summary: WOW!
Comment: Only snobs and tone-deaf people could hate this. I am 21 years old so have grown up in the 1990s and 2000s a time where rock music is essentially dead so I have acquired out classic rock records including most of the Allman Brothers Band material, old and new to keep myself, a lover of music amused. This DVD is amazing! The Brothers sing with soul purpose and preform long and flawless solo after solo after solo. The 2003 Hittin the Note material is very strong and the old stuff sounds as timeless as ever. All I can say as a young man is I wish they still made it the same, Long live old rockers.

Editorial Reviews:

The Allman Brothers' strong, occasionally startling set on this DVD may soften those intransigent purists who won't accept the band without its original (and now fired) guitarist, Dickey Betts. The group's classic dual-guitar sound is capably covered by returning member Warren Haynes and rising star Derek Trucks (young nephew of Allmans' drummer Butch Trucks), who sounds as if he's lived and breathed the late Duane Allman's playbook since he left the cradle. Derek's barbed riffs feed the textured funk of "Statesboro Blues" and get some mileage out of filler like "Come and Go Blues," but the blissful-looking fellow's supreme moment comes when he joins Haynes in a blisteringly beautiful attack on gospel stunner "Soul Shine." Some of the material here borders on the pedestrian, but vocalist-keyboardist Gregg Allman's grizzled mastery of the blues can still lead this legendary band through some epic mysteries. --Tom Keogh
