Summary: Bad music, bad narration!
Comment: I am sorry that I purchased this CD. "Non-thinking" is something I really try to work on in my own meditations, and I was hoping this CD would work well with my own goals.

Unfortunately, the music is very distracting from the meditation. A lot of it consists of zither and harmonica (yes, harmonica) tones zipping up and down the scale at a very rapid pace. It's quite different from what you'd expect on a CD that is meant to relax you!

The narrator also has a strong foreign accent. This, too, is distracting from the meaning of the words she is speaking. You end up thinking more about the accent and where she might be from than you do about the content of the meditation itself.

I do NOT recommend this CD.

Summary: Great CD!
Comment: This CD provides practical instruction for the practice of meditation -- specifically regarding the difficult task of reaching that pure, original state of "No Mind." The narrator's soothing voice is a subtle reminder to stay in the present. I like to let the CD run its course... and when it's finished, embrace the silence around me and continue my meditation for another 15 or 20 minutes.

Summary: sappy "new age" synthesizer "music" in background and an annoying accent
Comment: I was looking for a good guided meditation and this sounded like the ticket.

However as soon as I put it in the cd player and heard this sappy synthesizer "space" music, I was put off. I HATE this kind of "music" and I am sure I will find it very difficult to get into the guided meditation with this junk playing in the background.

I'd rather here silence, or some mellow guitar, or ocean sounds, or just about ANYthing other than this drek!

I will listen to it and try meditating to it, and if I find it good, I'll revise my review. But my first impression is:
"YEECCCCHHH!"

I would like to add that I have listened to this several times now and I agree with my original take on it. No offense to the "artist" but the music is the most generic kind of new age crapola, and also I would like to add that the woman guiding the meditation has an annoying accent. I realize she cannot help that, and maybe I should be able to overlook it, but the fact is, it is distracting to me.

One more note: This recording contains 2 tracks, the first one is 31 min. but the 2nd one is only 7 minutes! And worse, it doesn't even fade out properly, it just cuts off at the end. I had to double check it to see if it was defective, but no, it is just haphazardly, sloppily made that way.

I would update this to zero stars if I could.

I decided to check my local libraries, and I found about 10 different recordings of guided meditations. This way I can check them out before buying, or perhaps just copy them for my personal use. I think guided meditations are very personal and what one person may like a lot, another person may not like, as is the case with this one, where 2 people gave it 5 stars and I only gave it one star. It makes sense to check them out at the library before buying.

Summary: Wonderful and helpful!
Comment: The Non-Thinking CD helps me to focus on my mind and gently teaches how to learn the state of non-thinking. Intially, it was an abstract idea to me, non-thinking. However, Pakvilai truly has perfected the art form of explaining her ideas and assisting me to focus effective strategies to calm my being. By focusing on breathing, detaching from my thoughts, allowing and being aware of my thoughts entering and exiting my mind, and being in the present moment, I can find this way of non-thinking.
This CD has helped me to relax and focus on my being and being inthe moment. I recommend it, as well as the other in the set, to anyone!

Summary: Non-Thinking: The Mental Medicine Collection
Comment: I've ordered all four of the audio CD's in the series - Sacred Moment, Sleep Ease, Non-Thinking and Quiet Thoughts. Described as " ... to heal and slow down a busy mind'. My reviews of each are similar in their praise and satisfaction. They are 4 terrific guided meditations. I've personally found it difficult to meditate without some assistance and rarely have time to go to a meditation center, many of which have limited sessions. What I was searching for was a guided meditation that could guide my positioning and mental focus and then provide soothing music to sit with. There are two components to each CD, talking with background music and then a period of just music. I've tried other similar CD's but didn't use them for long because, for some reason, I just couldn't get relaxed by the audio portion. That was not the case with these CD's. Pakvilai's gentle soothing voice is so beautiful and relaxing, I never tire of listening to it. The timing (about 30 minutes) on each CD is perfect for the morning before work and before going to bed at night. These CD's will work well for both beginners and experienced meditators. The music background on each CD is different and truly relaxing.

Non-Thinking focuses on learning the freedom of non-thinking. Pakvilai varies her introduction and guidance enough so that each CD is different and refreshing. In this CD she focuses on your mind and how to follow your thoughts at they arrive and leave, then how to focus on non-thinking - by focusing on breathing, your body feelings and the present moment. She guides you on how to detach from your thoughts during meditation, just by letting your thoughts gently flow in and out of your mind as you observe them arriving and leaving.

Sacred Moment focuses on finding present moment awareness. It starts with basic guidance and flows into a wonderful description on how to bring your focus to the present moment and keep it there when thoughts arise. She guides you to think about each moment as being sacred and how to feel still, calm and free.

Quiet Thoughts focuses on learning how to slow down your thinking. It starts with basic guidance and flows into how to be present with what you are doing and your surroundings and how to quiet your mind and keep it at ease. She guides you on how to relax your entire body. As she speaks, she pauses just long enough for you to digest what's she's said and then moves on.

Sleep Ease is all about getting you so relaxed you fall asleep. The introduction is different in that you are instructed to lay on your back. This CD focuses t getting you to relax your entire body. Pakvilai gets you to the point of feeling like you are as light as a feather and floating on a cloud. She slowly guides you to focus on your entire body, part-by-part, from head to toe. I've found this particular CD invaluable on those days when I'm under a lot of stress and can't easily fall asleep or sometimes when waking up in the middle of the night with a monkey mind, I listen to it to put me back to sleep.
