Customer reviews of Rocking Mars
|
Customer Rating: Summary: A New Universe of Creativity Comment: The two discs were recorded at the 1999 Klangart Festival and is essentially a performance of Mars Polaris.
An authorized release from the band, the 14 songs are outstanding, with a heavy emphasis on the rhythm propelling each number. The flow from one piece to another has an orchestral feel and provides a great way to hear Tangerine Dream unhindered through editing or other dilemmas which may confront the chronicling of a show.
For this creative period of the band, the set is highly recommended as a grand example of expanding on the work in the studio.
Customer Rating: Summary: Rocking Mars Polaris Live and Unembellished Comment: First of all I will state that I am a bigger fan of the 70's and 80's era "analog synthesizer music" than the 90's "elevator music". I really liked "Mars Polaris" and jumped when I heard that a live album of this material existed. If you liked the studio album then you'll like the live album because it's almost exactly the same save for some extended sections, more prominent guitar (which does detract sometimes) and more electronic percussion (once you've heard a Roland cymbal you will always be able to identify it). All songs do segue which is a definite plus. For the most part everything is verbatim from the studio album to the point that I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Edgar and Jerome merely hit play on the sequencer and sat back to hear the music "live". I was hoping for more impressionistic interpretations of the material than there were.
I do recommend this album to anyone who likes the post 90's dance influenced material, and if you liked "Mars Polaris" it's more or less the same. .... But if you are looking for a mix of older TD live improvisation and new composition you're going to be a little disappointed. Let "Valentine Wheels" be your guide.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great concert Comment: This is one of my favorite Tangerine Dream CD's. Lots of cool percussion work by Emil Hachfeld and Gerald Gradwohl adds lots of cool guitar work, this was absensce from the studio version of Mars Polaris.
Great CD, only thing that sukcs is its missing the encores, but its still a great double CD set with great combination of electronic instrumental work with some great guitar lines.
Customer Rating: Summary: Mars Polaris Live and Expanded! Comment: 2 cd set recorded at the 1999 Klangart Festival is essentially a live version of Mars Polaris with a few extra songs not on that cd like the awesome CaVa-Ca Marche-Ca on disc 2.This is an official Tangerine Dream release not a Bootmoon one so the sound quality is terrific(though a couple of guitar notes on the 2nd disc sound a little off,it may be a mixing misstep or just a hearing problem on my part)There may not be a lot of new material here but this is Tangerine Dream at the height of their sci-fi instrumental glory. If you're a fan of TD concerts don't waste your money on dreck like Ambient Monkeys or Dream Encores this is the one to have.
