Customer reviews of Snakes & Arrows
|
Customer Rating: Summary: Vapor Trails meets Counterparts.... Comment: This is for the Rush fan only. If you are a Rush fan, then you must have it, because it is a very good album. It's like a mix between Vapor Trails and Counterparts, but of course has its own sound.
The stand outs are as following:
5 stars:
Faithless, Armor & Sword, Workin' Them Angels, and Good News First
4 stars:
Far Cry, The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum), The Main Monkey Business, and The Way the Wind Blows.
3 stars: Spindrift, Hope, Bravest Face, Malignant Narcism, We Hold On.
This album has a lot of 3 star songs IMO, which kind of drags it down unlike other Rush albums, which are loaded with 4 and 5 star songs.
If you are not a Rush fan, start with Moving Pictures, 2112, Power Windows or Roll the Bones.
Customer Rating: Summary: Rush is awesome!! Comment: The DVD MVI Audio version is great. The sound quality is great.

Malignant Narcissism
We Hold On
Customer Rating: Summary: I tried to like this, I really did Comment: I was introduced to Rush 20 years ago and never looked back. No matter how they changed their style or approach over the years, at their core they were RUSH--which meant the music was going to get into your heart sooner or later. The combination of the Professor's wonderful lyrics and the combined talent of possibly the best three musicians in the world, meant greatness. Sure, there were some less than great albums-- Test for Echo and Hold You Fire come to mind-- but even those works have many songs I treasure. Snakes and Arrows doesn't move me at all.
I know this album is surrounded by controversy because of the 'Faith' theme. That controversy doesn't interest me. Peart's poetry here is wonderful, and as poetry alone it speaks to my heart. But I think they tried too hard to make music fit the poetry and forgot about the music itself this time.
I have listened to this cd dozens of times, willing it to move me. It just does not.
Customer Rating: Summary: rush cd Comment: Purchased as new, came as new. Ordered other items so shipping was free. Cheaper than I could have bought it at Best Buy or Circuit City.
Customer Rating: Summary: Shows how a great band matures with style Comment: I think this album gives a fine example of a great band with 30 years together can still create some great musical ideas. Alex's guitar playing shows a restrained maturity, and the emphasis on accoustic guitar really complements the album. I really liked Malignant Narcissism, as it builds a unique groove, and Alex's work on "Hope" which is really a standout on the album. Geddy seems to have found a new voice which is less shrill and surprisingly powerful. Niel's drum work is, of course, flawless throughout-- refined, tight and perfect. Lyrically, sometimes Neil strays a little too far into the "what is it all about" territory, but in general, a lot of emotion comes through in the material.

Editorial Reviews:
|
Anthem/Atlantic recording group Rush return with its first new collection of original material in nearly five years, entitled "SNAKES & ARROWS." The album was recorded in the fall of 2006 with Gammy Award-winner Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver) and Rush co-producing. "It's hard to describe," Geddy Lee recently told Revolver re: "SNAKES & ARROWS.""It's big, it's bold, and I think it's some of the best work we've done in years. I'm really pleased with the quality ofthe songs, and there's lots of playing on it. " Rush - Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart - will trumpet the release of "SNAKES & ARROWS" with a full-scale North American tour, the renowned trio's first since 2004's "An Evening with Rush: 30th Anniversary Tour."
