Summary: way overrated
Comment: I've listened to just about all the material Jens has released to date and there have been several brilliant tunes (Black Cab, I saw her at the antiwar-demonstration...) but many more not so special ones. I was hoping for a couple from the first category on this record but didn't find any.
And please stop with the Magnetic Fields and Morrisey comparisons. Stephen Merritt and Morrissey (with Marr) have both written dozens of classics. Jens, maybe a handful? I know he's got more in him!
If you're new to him, I recommend you check out his earlier stuff first.

Summary: Jens Lekman: A Refreshingly Familiar Style
Comment: Jens Lekman's music is eclectic and fun. It is reminiscent of other musical greats, but entirely original all at the same time. The lyrics make no sense in the same way that thoughts often flow in a somewhat random and unordered manner.
My favorite song on this track is A Postcard to Nina which tells the story of Jens and his penpal Nina. Nina is afraid to tell her father she is a lesbian, so she tells her father that she is dating Jens. The story is funny, original and tackles a subject not often broached in mainstream music.

Comment: This album is totally awesome. I saw Jens play live after a friend told me about him. The day after the concert I bought this album and I've loved it ever since.

Summary: Excessiveness of this record nearly defeats it.
Comment: Right, so two things about this record, its pretty good but its for sure not great.
While the lyrics are catchy, witty and sometimes downright lovely, the music is overdone overdone overdone (Jens please see Joy Berry's "Overdoing It"), and the elaborate liberties taken by Mr. Lekman sometimes over-power the charming simple nature of his lyrics (the first two tracks "And i remember every kiss" & "Sipping on the sweet nectar" I skip all together because of how simply obstreperously irritating they are arranged).
But the record does have its high moments, particularly "Your arms around me", which is probably the best song on the record, although I recommend the acoustic version over this one. "It was a strange time in my life" borders on annoying but eventually wins out as another one of the record's highlights.
So while I'll continue to say "too much time, too much money" was thrown at the production of this one, its worth having. It was made for sunny days and bicycle rides.

Like a modern day Chet Baker, Jens loves to sing about heartache. This is his first album in over three years, and Kortedala refers to a neighborhood in his hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden - "a depressing suburban hell". It also refers to a vague musical pop sound with hints of tropicalia that has been coming out of Gothenburg's clubs the last few years. "Night Falls Over Kortedala" features many previously unreleased live favorites and guest vocals from label-mate Frida Hyvonen and El Perro del Mar.
