Customer reviews of Live in Concert

Customer Rating: Summary: great to wake up to Comment: I am so pleased with this music, it's great to wake up to, a great way to start my day.
Customer Rating: Summary: Do You Believe In Magic! Comment: Snatam's Kaur's studio albums are amazing enough, but 'Live in Concert' captures what only a live performance can bring out: Magic! The atmospheres, the mood, the receptive audiences, the anticipation.. AND SHE DELIVERS!
Each song, if a separate track, would be worth the price of the album alone, but that would be to miss the point. There's a synergy here between performers and audience, you sense, that can best be described as Spiritual. Although a compilation from her recent performances, this album is put together in a way to give the listener as close to the same experience of sitting through a concert as possible. It begins with the most touching 'Azure Salver' which sets the spiritual tone from onset.. The Magic is about to begin! 'Ong Namo' powerfully sets the reverential tone. Time to pick up the pace now, and Snatam Kaur brings the audience into 'Ong Sohung', singing along, "I am Peace. Peace is in Me. It's in You. BELIEVE IT!" I remain spellbound through the next two Kirtan: 'Gobinda Hari' and 'Adi Shakti'. Next, the amazing 'Shivoham'-- mesmerizing and beautiful duet of Snatam Kaur and Manish Vyas. Does it get any better? I can't imagine... I almost pinch myself(!) Finishing with 'Aad Guray Nameh' is a fitting, beautifully performed and deeply reverential acknowledgement and affirmation of ultimate Sikh truths.
Regardless of your faith (or lack thereof) just open up to Snatam Kaur's music and let yourself be taken away in bliss and peace. I'm sure that you will be glad that you did!

Customer Rating: Summary: Let Snatam and her band take you into bliss! Comment: This CD is lovely. Snatam has the voice of an angel and there is something special about hearing her live. She gets the audience to sing along in parts, yet there is no clapping or outside noise that could be disturbing. She has the presence to bring me to tears, time and again. And there is a bonus DVD showing different parts of her tour which is also moving. One thing I noticed in the DVD (live performances also) is that the audience is respectful. Most have their eyes closed and are just soaking in the peace provided. A true thumb's up for this album!!

Editorial Reviews:
|
Recorded at concert halls, churches and yoga studios as Snatam Kaur and her ensemble traveled across North America, you ll hear performances which soar to the heights of these sacred spaces and find a home in the hearts of their audiences. Join in the magical experience of Snatam Kaur Live in Concert. Also includes a bonus DVD, Path of Peace, that intimately chronicles this tour. This album fulfills years of requests for Snatam Kaur to capture the experience of her live performances on CD. There is something mystical that happens at her concerts that is represented in these songs.
The album opens with Azure Salver, a prayer translated in the book Peace Lagoon. This song has been a favorite at her concerts, but has never been recorded before. This song is hilighted by the clarity of Snatam's voice, the poetry of the lyrics, and the expert instrumental accompaniment.
The live version of Snatam's Ong Namo takes the recorded version into the ethers. Sometimes when Snatam is on stage, she goes into a deep meditative space and spontaneously weaves improvisational poetry into the songs. Ong Namo has a beautiful example of this.
On Ong Sohung, Gobinda Hari and Adi Shakti, the dynamic interplay of the entire band is hilighted to perfection with incredible musical conversations between Snatam Kaur, Manish Vyas and GuruGanesha Singh, fantastic solos on guitar, violin, tabla and clarinet, and the lively experience of a slowly building rhythm that is unique to the live kirtan experience.
Shivohum is a track composed by Manish, and you will be singing this track for years to come. A beautiful duet between Snatam and Manish, this track has an an addictive energy and purity of sound that you will want to listen to again and again.
