Summary: My least favorite from BN
Comment: I know everyone is supposed to say how wonderful this album is, and if you don't, you get panned, but it was a big disappointment to me. I have listened to Ritchie Blackmore's music since I was a kid (DP), and his interest in Baroque music is what made me give it a try, but this album is just plain bad. To me, it's the worst of the lot, having enjoyed all but Under a Violet Moon immensely, and that moderately. I could not find a single song on this album I liked, and that's remarkable because on all the other albums I could find five or more. Even Locked within a Crystal Ball does does nothing for me.
For anyone who has not listened to Blackmore's Night, do not try this album and make a judgment on the rest based on it. Try Shadow of the Moon, Ghost of a Rose, Fires at Midnight, or Village Lanterne. I love this band, but dislike this album, so don't use this as a measuring stick.
I am also not willing to write off Ritchie Blackmore so easily as some that find this album uninspiring. The issue is really the other albums are so good, they are hard to measure up to. One bad album is not a trend, and he's surprised everyone so many times, giving up on him because of a bad album is a mistake. I'll buy their next album without any hesitation, but I wouldn't buy this one again if it got destroyed.

Comment: Blackmore's Night is one of my favorites. They deliver vivid imagery, beautiful vocals, and soulful music to create a purely unique vision. From gypsies and queens to highwaymen and magicians, they also offer wonderful folklore. Secret Voyage is their best cd yet and I'm very pleased with it.

Summary: Be Warned!
Comment: I have loved Blackmore's Night ever since I first heard them a few years ago. Candice has an amazing voice, Ritchie is a musical genius and combined with the rest of the ensemble they have a great band. And this latest release is another notch on their belt with a great album.
But if you like to have CD's then rip them to your MP3 player, be warned! It plays flawlessly on a CD player, but it is all scratchy on a computer. Any computer that this has been on sounds like an old overplayed LP. I thought importing it would clean it up, maybe bad playback or some such. Nope, the MP3 is poor quality too. Is this some new version of DRM? The only places I can listen to this now is on my stereo or my car. Not while mowing the lawn, working out, walking, anything portable is out of the question.
Sad, really sad.

Summary: Blackmore's Night - Still Growing, Still Great
Comment: This album, apparently, done in a studio seems a little more whiz-bang than B'sN's other albums. It also seems to have a little more Eastern Folk influence than the English/Teutonic Influence of previous albums. I liked it. Candice's voice and lyrics are still smooth as silk. Richey's music, especially the intros just get sweeter.

Summary: Secret voyage
Comment: I am a new fan to Blackmore's Night. I first heard their music on their Christmas album WINTER CAROLS. I was immediately taken by the group's beautiful brand of medieval folk music. I recently got a copy of their new cd SECRET VOYAGE. I immediately loved the album the very second I started playing the cd in my stereo. The delicate melodies, Candice Night's fragile vocals, and Ritchie Blackmore's dexterous skills as a musician is all there on the album. As I am listening to the cd again, I imagine myself at my local renaissance fair wearing a long flowing, flowery dress with a wreath of flowers wrapped around my head. I loved all of the songs even the band's unique take on Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love". The two songs that really stood out for me is "Gilded Cage" and "Far Far Away". I really just love the lyrics and melodies. After hearing SECRET VOYAGE, I am definitely going to have to check out the band's previous cds. I find myself hooked on Blackmore's Night. I can see SECRET VOYAGE being in my top ten list of best cds of 2008.
