Summary: For Bob Dylans fans mainly
Comment: The type of guitar work in these songs and the yelping for singing is the type of lo-fie rock I have a hard time understanding/liking.

Summary: The Walkmen's Best Yet.
Comment: Full of beautiful songs, You & Me is The Walkmen's best and most cohesive album. There is a depth to it that never existed or I never noticed on their other albums. Leithauser's lyrics and his voice are front and center on most tracks, and you can feel his emotions like he is sitting next to you. "Red Moon" and "Canadian Girl" are my favorites, but you can listen to this album all the way through and not be disappointed.

Summary: You & Me both
Comment: "Bile-soaked single The Rat gave The Walkmen their biggest hit,but this doubt-ravaged fourth album is their most cohesive success. Its atmospheric, indie-infused Americana is a late night treat, Hamilton Leithauser's raw vocals - he sounds like a broken, drunken Bob Dylan - setting the contemplative tone. "Seven Years Of Holidays (For Stretch)" juggles past rootlassness with a desire for security. Red Moon is about missing home and making promises; the shaky optimism of In The New Year is built upon chiming, steely guitars. The sparse songs bloom into audacious, shambling melodies, Matt Barrick's clickety-clack percussion adding a quirky charm to the melancholy, funeral brass and subtle strings which flutter throughout. Intimate, intense and beautiful, You & Me demands repeat plays and The Walkmen deserve a new respect"

I can't really put it better than Betty Clarke's five star review from The Guardian UK (above). That a fourth album can be this good is astounding in these times of diminishing returns. Hamilton's vocals have never sounded better drenched as they are by the rest of the band's splashy and reverbed guitars and skittering drums and bass. Slower and more sure footed than previous efforts this moody magnificence continually made the hairs on the back my neck stand to attention. Scarily good.

Summary: A great album
Comment: If you liked Bows + Arrows, this album continues their arc to a mellower place. I agree with a previous reviewer that it takes a few listens to get into it, but I've now racked up something ridiculous like 30 listens -- which MUST mean that I love it. It just flows so well from start to finish. Beautiful, haunting, chest-swelling music.

Summary: Another Great WAlkmen Album...
Comment: I'll keep this short and to the point. This is another great Walkmen album. If you liked previous Walkmen albums you'll like this one (although I wasn't too mad on Pussy Cats). I find it takes about four listens to get into it, then the true depth of the record reveals itself. This isn't a record you'll throw away in a month or two, this is a record that persists. Enjoy - and as with many other Walkmen records, this one really shines on a proper stereo as opposed to headphones in traffic. Captivating...

Editorial Reviews:

You & Me is a solid and complex collection of inspired songwriting. Romantic and celebratory, this is
the sound of The Walkmen returning to classic form. The music that influenced the Walkmen to compose You & Me follows in a tradition of song writing that traces back to early rock'n'roll: the intimacy and energy of Elvis Presley's and Buddy Holly's early recordings, and the massive voice and orchestration of Roy Orbison. With some romance and drama, You & Me harnesses the immediacy of a live-band into meticulously constructed, unique-sounding rock songs. You & Me would definitely not be mistaken for old, but has an almost immediate
ability to evoke a wistful sense of nostalgia in any listener.
